basket form

relief print with embroidery thread
artists proof
235 mm x 295 mm

Woven baskets, were once an essential and necessary item for collecting and storage of food. Many cultures developed baskets beyond the utilitarian, creating works of great artistic and technical achievement. I like the form of the basket. In my print I've developed this form using the techniques of relief printing. I decided to use the embroidery threads to emphasis the physical and relief nature of a basket , to take it beyond a 'picture' and its surface towards the three dimensions of an object, in a sense, drawing with thread.
